Why Attend a Job Fair?

Online applications are an important part of today’s hiring process, but a job fair gives candidates something an online form cannot: an opportunity to make a personal connection.

Attending the Alton Career Connect Job Fair allows you to:

• Speak directly with employer representatives
• Learn about current and upcoming openings
• Ask questions about qualifications and hiring processes
• Explore industries or positions you may not have previously considered
• Introduce yourself beyond what appears on a résumé
• Build confidence speaking with hiring professionals
• Make connections that may lead to future opportunities

Even if you are not certain which position is right for you, attending can help you better understand the local employment landscape and identify your next step.

How to Prepare

A little preparation can help you make a stronger impression and get more value from the event.

Update Your Résumé

Review your résumé before the job fair and make sure your contact information, employment history, skills, and education are current.

Bring several printed copies so you can provide one to each employer that interests you.

Dress Professionally

Choose clean, professional clothing that helps you feel confident and prepared. Dressing appropriately shows employers that you are taking the opportunity seriously.

Practice Your Introduction

Be ready to briefly introduce yourself. Your introduction does not need to be complicated.

You can share:

• Your name
• The type of work you are seeking
• Your experience or strongest skills
• Why you are interested in the organization

A clear and friendly introduction can help begin a meaningful conversation.

Research Participating Employers

Review the employer list and identify the organizations you most want to meet. Learning a little about them in advance can help you ask better questions and demonstrate genuine interest.

Bring Questions

Consider asking employers:

• What positions are currently available?
• What qualifications are most important?
• What does the hiring process involve?
• Are there opportunities for training or advancement?
• What is the best way to follow up after the job fair?

Be Open to New Possibilities

You may arrive with one type of position in mind and discover an opportunity you had not considered. Take time to speak with a variety of employers and learn about the different career paths available.

Supporting Alton’s Workforce and Business Community

The Alton Career Connect Job Fair is about more than filling open positions. It is about connecting local talent with organizations that need skilled, dependable employees.

When employers can recruit locally, our entire community benefits. Residents gain access to career opportunities, businesses strengthen their teams, and more economic activity remains within the region.

The collaboration between the Alton EDC, Greater Alton Chamber of Commerce, Workforce Solutions, and RGV Operation Get Hired reflects a shared commitment to helping people access opportunity and supporting the workforce needs of area employers.

Take Your Next Step

A conversation can lead to an application. An introduction can lead to an interview. An opportunity you discover at the job fair may become the beginning of your next professional chapter.

Mark your calendar, prepare your résumé, and join us on September 9.

We look forward to welcoming job seekers and employers to the Alton Career Connect Job Fair.
